Sleep Myths and Facts You Should Know

Sleep, like many other human needs, is relevant and had ended up being the center of many talks around the globe. Some of which are truthful while some may be purely mythical in nature. Another sleep myth is that daytime sleepiness is only for those who had not enough sleep at night. In reality, this can be a sign of an underlying condition like sleep apnea or narcolepsy.

Watching TV to help sleep faster is a myth. In reality, doing anything like watching TV or using any gadgets like one’s phone or tablet when bed time is near agitates one’s sleep cycle. If one needs background noise to sleep, it is better to go for sound machines.

Aside from watching TV, some also believe that consuming alcohol can help them sleep faster. This is not true. Alcohol may help you remain calm, but it also increases the chances of you suddenly waking up in the middle of the night. Thus, disrupting your precious sleep.

Lastly, some believe that exercising before sleep will help you have sleep faster and have deeper sleeps. On the contrary, exercising before sleep will elevate your body temperatures and prevent you from sleeping faster. If one has to exercise before sleeping, it should be done for at least 1 to 2 hours before hitting the bed.
